If you’ve been lugging all your documents home to feed into a flatbed scanner, you’re behind the times. Portable scanners make it easy to scan and save documents on the go. The Brother DS-620 mobile scanner is one of the new generation of portable scanners. It’s lightweight and easy on power, connecting to your laptop or PC via USB. Forget about the flatbed, and take the DS-620 portable scanner everywhere you go.
The Brother DS-620 Review
With a weight of just over 14 ounces (not quite 1 lb), this just might be the lightest full-size portable scanner on the market. In addition to its small size, the Brother DSMobile scanner is surprisingly versatile. It can easily scan anything from a business card to an 8.5 x 32” page, and save scans in multiple formats. The included Presto! PageManager software for Mac or Nuance PaperPort for Windows makes it easy to view, organize, and send scanned files. TWAIN compatibility also makes scans from your DS-620 scanner easy to edit and manipulate in Adobe Photoshop.
There are some thoughtful inclusions with the Brother DS-620 scanner. First, it’s a color scanner so you can use it for documents, photos, recipes or anything really that has color. There’s also a handy carrying case available separately, which is a nice touch for an odd-sized item like a portable scanner. On the other hand, your DS-620 scanner will also easily fit into any laptop bag or briefcase – so the carrying case may not prove all that useful. This portable scanner is also thoughtfully fast, managing 8 scans per minute at a speedy 8 seconds each.
Features of the DS-620:
- Mac and Windows compatible
- Scan to E-mail, PDF or Folder
- One year limited warranty
- Can scan receipts and business cards
- Single-sided scanning
- Adjustable paper glides
- USB power, no batteries
- Color scans
Customers seem fairly happy with the DS-620 as it is a top seller. That said, there are a few bad reviews from users who have had trouble getting the scanner to work properly. These types of mixed reviews is common in the home technology world and something to weigh as you look at options. I like to look at the amount of low to high reviews to determine whether a product really is problematic for most or just for a few.
Note that Brother offers 2 additional mobile scanners at higher price points. With those models you get duplex scanning and wireless capabilities on the higher-priced model. So if you are looking for increased speed or wireless flexibility, be sure to check out the DS-720D and the DS-920DW.
If you’re short on space or just want a scanner you can take on the go, consider the Brother DS-620. Great for the business person who travels a lot to the stay at home mom who needs to scan old recipes at Grandmother’s house. With quality scans and a bunch of other features, this portable scanner will save you serious time and help you stop bringing your work home with you. Scan on the go and get more organized with this great portable scanner.
