Digital photos are not only great because you can endlessly edit them, put them as your smartphone or desktop background, or photoshop them as if you were in an epic adventure instead of a vacation trip.
Whether you have digitized old physical photos using a photo scanner or produced new digital ones, you can bring them back into physicality in novel and creative ways. Browse through some of these ideas to learn how to cheaply use your digital photos to create unique gifts and decorations for your home.
Everyone uses mugs. Either for a relaxing tea or for an invigorating coffee, mugs are inescapable accoutrement of every kitchen and home, but the ones you can buy in stores are sorely lacking in creativity. As they have to appeal to the largest number of potential buyers, they must eschew specific themes and instead settle on dull patterns.
You no longer have to accept that, many online services offer you an opportunity to upload an image and they will imprint it on a high-quality mug.
As a gift they are perfect. You can put family photos on them, or if the person is a huge fan of video games, you can end up with something like this.
Or even better, as a lot of people spend their free time with video games now, you could immortalize that one screenshot when you played together in a co-op game. You can share that exhilarating moment and make it ’real’ by imprinting it on a mug.
A natural addition to personalized mugs, coasters would complement your uniquely designed mugs perfectly. In fact, it would look out of place if you didn’t use the same service for a coaster as well.
For special events like birthdays, weddings, christenings, baptisms, anniversaries, or just unique parties, it would be a great touch to use personalized coasters to round up a certain theme and make everything more cohesive and memorable.
You don’t have to settle with just using photos as your smartphone’s wallpaper. Instead, design your own unique case for a smartphone. You can do this easily online by uploading your photo and previewing the final result.
Be sure to check the existing collections to better hone in on your own design. Almost every smartphone released in the last five years is supported for the perfect personalized smartphone case!
Although you have the option of digital frames with LCD screens which can actively cycle through slideshows, and even have motion detectors to turn on only when someone is in the room, sometimes it is not practical to place digital frames where you want them because of their dependence on electrical outlets.
It would not look very good to have wires hanging from every wall, would it?
This is the time to revert to good old traditional picture frames. You can have a print made for everything you like and what would fit best in your home. From family photos to reprints of exorbitantly expensive works of art that were sold at auctions for millions of dollars.
You could even screenshot your favorite, most treasured games, then have them be printed and framed, ending with something like this.
How would you like to have your very own card playing game?
It would have the same rules and basic symbols in order to recognize the card hierarchy, but the imagery on every card would be completely up to you.
You can make this happen cheaply and online.
All you have to do is make tough decisions on which photos to include to create a visually coherent card game, so be sure to check out some other sets first.
Personalized Pillows and Blankets
The future is in customization. Settling on the material and quality of a product is one thing, but finding the right design is another altogether.
Everyone who still counts on finding just the right design of something in a conventional store will be sorely disappointed at the selection being offered. Of course, this is to be expected as manufacturers cannot cater to every lifestyle and design, so they have to establish universal patterns.
This is an outdated way of thinking, as services now exist that enable you to completely customize how your most commonly used items look – in this case pillows and blankets.
You can also look up for quilts and other types of blankets. Just don’t go overboard and personalize absolutely everything.
Otherwise, you will end up with a jumbled mess of colors and images everywhere. It would be prudent to have ‘blank’ items as being the majority, and having personalized items as the ones that serve to accentuate the space you are inhabiting.
It’s nice to have the ability to just upload an image and imprint it on an item of your choosing by someone else, but in some instances this is still not doable.
Transforming a bland lampshade into something unique and gift-worthy is one of those instances.
Fortunately, DIY (Do It Yourself) tutorials are available for pretty much everything you can imagine. Transformation of your lampshade is actually not as difficult as you would think:
Take off the shade part of your lampshade; it’s most likely shaped as either a cylinder or a cone.
After you have selected the photo or lettering, print it to on an iron-on paper. Leave it for a minute to dry off before handling it.
Cut the print around the edges, but leave a small gap between the image and the transfer paper.
Prepare a hard surface for where you will transfer the image on to the shade. Doing so will ensure that there are no creases and gaps produced in the process.
Set an iron on the maximum setting, so it heats up to its fullest capacity.
Set the shade onto the hard surface and align the transfer paper on to the shade.
Push hard the heated iron onto the back of the transfer paper, moving it evenly across the image for about half a minute.
Once it is cooled off, remove the peel from the transfer paper.
And there you have it, your own uniquely designed lampshade!
