If you are looking for a solution to organizing your home office but are limited on space, consider the NeatDesk Scanner. This document and receipt scanner is much more compact than a traditional flatbed scanner, but is so much more efficient in so many ways.
The NeatDesk Scanner can take all of your loose receipts, documents, and business cards and organize them in a nice little digital filing system. What you do with your hard copies after this is up to you; either toss them in the shredder or recycling bin or box them up for permanent storage. The point is that they will be off of your desk!
NeatDesk Scanner Features
Not only is the NeatDesk itself an impressively fast scanner, but it comes with its own software that does most of the organizing for you. Since it can distinguish between receipts, documents, and business cards, it will automatically create a digital copy in the appropriate place on your computer.
You can create expense reports or digitize your entire contact list with business cards you’ve collected. Just scan business cards into outlook. The best part is that the NeatDesk Scanner’s software is compatible with many of the most common accounting softwares, including TurboTax.
The reports generated by the NeatDesk are recognized and accepted by the IRS. This makes tax time a breeze since reporting your expenses will just be a matter of a few clicks instead of searching and sorting through an endless pile of crinkled, faded receipts. The NeatDesk Scanner is ready to go to work whenever you are, so once you get the initial organization taken care of, you can scan your items into your computer as you get them and let that be that.
NeatDesk Scanner Reviews
The NeatDesk is another product that it seems you either love or hate. Some owners rave about how the scanner performs just as advertised and could not live without this best scanner. Others say it was a total waste of money.
The most common complaint is that of device or software crashes, which is most likely due to the failure of the customer to ensure compatibility. If your operating system is not up to the standard indicated from the manufacturer, then the NeatDesk simply isn’t going to function properly.
Likewise, if you are attempting to use the scanner’s software with any software that is not indicated as compatible, you will run into problems every time. Outside of these compatibility issues, the most common complaint is the scanner’s tendency to not pick up papers just right. There is no paper guide, so scans will often come out slightly off centered if the user isn’t there to guide it in just right. It does produce good quality scans, but not photo quality, which is off putting to some.
Buying Options
Considering the mixed reviews on this scanner, it is important that you read through what customers have to say before you buy. This scanner does still sell well on Amazon so it can’t all be bad, but considering the cost of this scanner you can’t afford to make a mistake. The NeatDesk is certainly innovative in many ways, particularly as a receipt scanner, but the reviews are concerning.
On the positive side, the scanner itself is attractive, which is important to some. It is capable of handling double sided documents and organizing the data on receipts, such as totals, dates and the like, into reports. Overall, this is probably a great scanner for someone who has a lot of receipt filing to do, but for those looking to scan a lot of documents there may be better options.
If you are discouraged by the user reviews on the NeatDesk, you may want to check out some of the other options in document scanners like the Fujitsu ScanSnap series or the Epson Workforce. Those are both great document scanners but their software is not designed anywhere as well for receipt processing, so keep that in mind.
