The Canon Pixma MX882 All-in-One printer is one of a few of Canon’s offering to the “do everything” arena. It’s an excellent printing solution, and it’ll quickly become the right-hand-man to your PC at the center of your business station.
Bad reviews of the Canon Pixma MX882 are very rare, and it has plenty of fans all over the Internet. With duplex scanning and auto duplex printing, two-sided documents are a breeze to both digest into your PC and to output back onto paper. Toss in a high-powered fax machine with the ability to print HD video stills taken with your Canon EOS digital SLR camera, and you’ve got a multi-talented toy with plenty of utility to boot.
Canon Pixma MX882 Features
This is truly a Swiss Army Knife of printers, as it scans, prints, copies and faxes. This is not in itself a revolutionary idea, as plenty of all-in-ones are on the market today. But the MX882 shines in both quality and added features. Its 9600 x 2400 (max) printing resolution gives extremely good results for the vast majority of uses. Art aficionados and those needed portfolio-quality prints may need to outsource, but most reports find the output quality to be excellent. Borderless (full bleed) 4” x 6” prints are done in around 20 seconds per picture.
Our favorite feature is the full duplex nature of its printing, scanning and copy modes. Duplex simply means dealing with both sides of a page at once, and the Canon Pixma MX882 does this nicely. Scanning double-sided documents is fully automatic — no more flipping and pushing buttons to get the second side. Copying and printing are done in similar fashion. When printing, the second side is printed automatically. Most of us are familiar with the older style where one must feed a page twice to get prints on the second side. Thankfully the MX882 takes care of this itself and it is one of the few all-in-ones that offer duplex scanning and copying.
Additional Features of the MX882:
- Direct printing from mobile devices and cameras using bluetooth, PictBridge or memory card.
- Full HD Movie Print software included
- Individual ink tanks
- Compatible with both Windows and Mac
The unit also includes what most upper-class printers offer in a 3” LCD preview screen. When printing directly from your digital camera, you can select prints to execute and those you wish to delete. You can leave the computer out of the equation with this method, which is a welcome message for those who’d rather leave the computer out indefinitely.
Some Drawbacks of the Pixma MX882
Most negative reviews we could locate involved trouble with installation or getting the wireless feature to work. Honestly this is sometimes due to user error or the stray software compatibility issue. Most standard-issue Internet users should not have an issue with these aspects of the unit, but if you feel that you’re especially technically deficient (and there’s no shame in being honest with yourself), then you might want to stick with a simpler option such as a standalone printer.
We did see one reviewer who felt the printing output was not suitable for an artistic portfolio. This is the one downfall of choosing an multifunctional printer as opposed to a simple photo printer – you will give up a little in image quality to have the added functionality. However, most users felt the quality was outstanding, so this could be to a particularly picky eye.
Overall, the Canon Pixma MX882 all-in-one printer is a solid choice for a fully featured printer, scanner and copier solution. Canon has a great reputation as a manufacturer of both scanners and printers and the MX882 has been a bestselling multifunctional printer on Amazon with strong reviews for awhile now.
