Scanners have come a long way in recent years. The old models were slow and the quality wasn’t always that great. Luckily, a lot has changed in the field of home scanning.
One of the companies that has been recognized for leading the way in scanner improvements is Canon and one of the most impressive yet relatively affordable scanners that they make is the Canon CanoScan 9000F scanner. This scanner captures images in seconds, and the quality of those images is really quite good. We decided to do a bit of research on this color scanner to see how it stacks up as a photo scanner.
Simplicity – At Last
Some scanners on the market today are anything but user-friendly. Fortunately, the CanoScan 9000F seems to go against this trend. It really was striking to find out just how many user-friendly features are built into this high quality scanner.
From simple-to-use, one-touch buttons to a helpful Auto-Scan mode, this is a scanner that is simple to take out of the box, and even simpler to use. Let’s face it, none of us have time to sit around and learn about complicated functions on a scanner. Canon seems to know this, and they’ve built the CanoScan 9000F scanner to be one of the easiest scanners to use for a wide variety of uses.
Resolution and Film Scanning
The resolution output of this CanoScan is 9600×9600 dpi which is about as high as you can get and one of the reasons that this model is one of the best photo scanners currently available. However, for just photo scanning you really don’t need that high of a resolution (only needed for film scanning). Another nice feature of this scanner is that you can scan pages from books or three-dimensional items because of the shadow correction function – lower end flatbed scanners would provide fuzzy images in these cases.
The 9000F also comes with adapters for scanning film products making it a great slide scanner. You can scan 35mm film and slides at a high resolution. The adapters also allow for multiple slide or film strips to be scanned at once which makes the process go a bit faster. You can buy a lower end slide scanner that is quicker and a bit less expensive, but the quality of your scanned images will be much lower.
Here’s what’s included when you buy the Canon CanoScan 9000F scanner:
- CanoScan 9000F Scanner
- A helpful software & document kit that includes Adobe Photoshop Elements.
- Film scanning accessories
- User’s Manual
As you can see, Canon has packed in all you need to get started with high quality image scanning in no time flat. It’s nice when a company makes the extra effort to include all the software you need to get the most from a piece of hardware, and Canon has scored a real home run with the bundle of goodies they include with the CanoScan 9000F scanner.
In fact, the Photoshop Elements software alone would set you back about $90 on, so that is a great deal bundled into this package. This software will allow you to do basic and advanced photo-editing along with doing more creative things like making cards or calendars.
Customer Reviews
The customer reviews at Amazon for the Canon CanoScan 9000F are very good. It has been consistently at the top of the bestseller list since its release in 2010. The average customer rating is 4.3 stars out of a possible 5, so it’s pretty apparent that this scanner is well liked by real life users. Most reviewers were very happy with the speed of this scanner which is important. Some of the online reviewers have even called this the best image scanner available.
With the Canon reputation for quality and the high volume of great reviews, the CanoScan 9000F is probably one of the best photo scanners for the price. While this scanner can be used for document scanning also, where it really seems to shine is as a photo, slide and film scanner. If you are looking for a higher end flatbed scanner or a photo scanner in particular, you really can’t go wrong with this Canon scanner.
